This Month’s Highlight is:

“The Veterans Banner Project is and has been a wonderful success and a great way to honor our past and current veterans who have sacrificed so much for us”

I am the city councilor who sponsored the ordinance change to allow the veterans banners to be hung along our city’s roadways. Santa Fe was the first city in New Mexico to implement this kind of program and other cities followed our lead on this — like Rio Rancho. I worked with veteran and former police officer, Don Cristy, to make sure we got this right.

We see our veterans and we remember what they have done for us. I think as a city — as a collective of diverse people who live together — taking time and attention to recognize those who make our freedom possible is very important. Saying “thank you” is important. The Veterans Banner Project does just that.

Our veterans are often forgotten and it is up to us to remember them by giving them the recognition they deserve.
